Here's my schedule of panels, readings and signing for this weekend's annual and excellent Polaris 2009 convention in Toronto (formerly Toronto Trek). They have, as always, a number of great media guests, but they've continued the trend of recent years of including a very good literary track as well. Lots of author guests, of which I'm one. Hope to see you there!
Friday July 10:
- 7:00pm – Panel: "Neil Gaiman, Cultmaster or Literary Phenomenon?"
Saturday July 11:
- 11:00am – Panel: "Time to Get Paid"
- 1:00pm – Signing (Dealer's Room)
- 3:00pm – Panel: "It's a Must Read"
- 8:00pm – Panel: "I Just Saw Alan Moore"
- 11:00pm – Panel: "Return of the Combustible Panel"

Re: My Polaris 2009 schedule
Excellent, thank you for getting back to me, and with extra recommendations. Next year I'll need to make sure I bring a note pad with me. Shame on me for being unprepared.
If I may, might I recommend to you Sum, by David Eagleman? It's a series of short discussions of alternative afterlives. Some are funny, others are thought provoking. I don't know that I can describe it well, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It was certainly unlike anything I'd read previously.
Thanks again!
You're welcome!
Hope you enjoy Zelazny, Colin. And thanks for the recommendation of the Eagleman book. I'll check it out.
Best, Doug

It's a Must Read
I really enjoyed you at "It's a Must Read"; It's always fun to learn what my authors are reading.
I had wanted to ask, you gave very high praise to a book which I believe you called "Avatar of Light", but I can't seem to find mention of it on the internet. Could I ask you to repeat what the title (If I got it wrong) and author were, to refine my search?
Thank you very much!
Your book question...
Hi Colin. Thanks for attending the panel, and for dropping by my site here. The book I mentioned was "Lord of Light" by Roger Zelazny. Other recommended works by Zelazny are the first Amber series (starts with Nine Princes in Amber), Jack of Shadows, Creatures of Light and Darkness, and any of his collections, but most certainly, The Last Defender of Camelot. He was an amazing writer, and died far too young of cancer at 56 in 1995.
